Tim Tebow criticism is really not warranted

I’m convinced. I watched greatness run into action last night on the NFL Network. Yep … I’m jumping on the Tebow train.

People have consistently disliked Tim Tebow since he appeared in a heavily Christian ad during the Super Bowl in 2010. And, to be honest, I don’t see why it’s warranted. There are analysts — like Merril Hoge — saying that Tebow doesn’t belong in the NFL.

Hoge went on Twitter and voiced his disdain for Tebow, saying, “Sitting watching tape of Bronco offense from last year! Orton or Tebow? It’s embarrassing to think the Broncos could win with Tebow!!”

Now, the Broncos are 4-1 since installing Tebow as their starter. There’s no denying that there’s something special about Tebow. What confuses me is why do so many analysts want him out of the league so quickly.

Tebow has played for two seasons and amassed 1,363 yards with a 79.8 QBR, not far from the league average 84. He is now instilling a dream in the Denver Broncos fans of making the playoffs and achieving something.

But, the hate just doesn’t end.

Some analysts have called Tebow the worst quarterback ever. Clearly these analysts haven’t heard of a guy named Jamarcus Russell. Russell played in the league for three years, garnering 4,083 passing yards and a 65.2 QBR. The Oakland Raiders were supposed to have the QB of the future. Instead, the pick made Al Davis look like he had no idea what he was doing.

Maybe Russell is too old of a memory for analysts. Maybe Curtis Painter will paint a different picture. Painter is the QB of the league’s worst team — the Indianapolis Colts. Painter has only played 10 games for the Colts. In 2009, his QBR for the season was a dismal 9.8. Over his career, he has a 60.6 QBR.

What about Luke McCown of the Jacksonville Jaguars? This guy has just been terrible for this season. His QBR? A 29.3. This is AFTER the Jaguars released David Garrard just before the start of the season — a very bizarre move. Now the Jaguars are stuck with a horrible QB who only played three games this season

Let’s throw Matt Leinart into the mix as well. He’s being thrust into the starting role for the Houston Texans since Matt Schaub is done for the year in a weird foot injury. Leinart was supposed to bring a Super Bowl to Arizona, but he succumbed to the hype. His QBR — with capable Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin as his receivers? 72.4.

All of these QBs have a QBR that is lower than Tebow, yet no one has thrown them under the bus. No one has demanded that they leave the NFL. In fact, Russell still had supporters in his final season as an Oakland Raider because people wanted him to succeed, and Russell was a travesty.

Somehow, Tebow is getting slammed by everyone and their momma. And I don’t quite understand it. It would be different if any of the QBs above were receiving the same treatment, but Tebow isn’t even getting a chance.

After Tebow’s brilliant game-winning drive against the New York Jets, all I could do is watch the TV screen with my mouth open and utter, “What just happened?” It was like watching Angels in the Outfield — as the angels made Jets defenders miss tackles after tackles. It was…shocking.

It was clear that Tebow has a heart better than most of the players in the NFL. His spirit is very captivating, and it’s clear that his teammates believe in him.

“I know people are still going to talk bad about us,” said Champ Bailey of the Broncos. “But I don’t care … We always have a chance with 15 as our quarterback.”

While Tebow may not have many supporters here on Earth, it’s clear that there are some angels watching over him in Heaven.

Word… I haven’t heard too much talk about Tebow other than people I know maybe not feeling him. But nobody is talking around my way. He’s far from the worst QB in the league today and he has a bright future ahead of him. He truly is blessed.
